Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

CI Adventures has been awarded the status of DofE Licensed Organisation (LO)  which means we are licensed to provide activities for all sections of D of E at all levels to our own groups and groups that operate within schools, voluntary organisations and private businesses.

We also have our own centre at the Boiler House, where individuals can come to take part in their D of E with other young people who can not access D of E elsewhere. Special needs groups are welcome. We have previously worked with young people with visual impairment and wheel chair users. We offer walking, kayaking, canoeing, horse riding and cycling expeditions that can take place anywhere in the UK or abroad. Opportunities are also available for the Residential section for Gold participants.

Anyone aged between 14 and 24 can get involved in a programme at one of three progressive levels which, when successfully completed, lead to a Bronze, Silver or Gold D of E Award. There are four sections to complete at Bronze and Silver level & five at Gold.

With assistance from our D of E Leaders, participants select activities (either new or existing interests) and set objectives in each of the following areas:

  • Volunteering: undertaking service to individuals or the community
  • Physical: taking part in the area of sport, dance or fitness activities
  • Skills: developing practical an social skills and personal interests
  • Expedition: planning, training for & completion of an adventurous journey in the UK or abroad
  • At Gold level, participants must do an additional fifth Residential section, which involves staying and working away from home doing a shared activity.

Our centre is run by experienced D of E leaders, all of whom wish to share their skills, enthusiasm and leadership abilities to help young people reach their potential. It would usually take a participant between 6-12 months to complete Bronze, 6-12 months for Silver and 12-18 months for a Gold Award. It may take less time for completion of the Silver or Gold Awards if the participant holds the preceding Award. All Awards must be completed by the participant’s 25th birthday.

CI Adventures have over 50 collective years of D of E experience. Through our commitment to D of E we use many different styles of work to make D of E accessible to all. We can offer activities at The Boiler House that can be accredited to D of E sections including, bouldering/climbing, archery, circus skills, street surfing, trainee instructor, art, drama, photography, and first aid.

We can also administrate the D of E for your group. This includes distributing enrolment forms, liaising with the D of E Office, collecting and distributing D of E books to young people and monitoring all sections for all levels. Our company is an Approved Activity Provider for the expedition section so we can train your group in the skills required to undertake an expedition up to Gold level. We can also assess your group at any level.

D of E Expedition training and assessment requires classroom training, which can be provided at the Boiler House or your own venue. Most of the adventurous activities the Boiler House offers can be accredited to the Physical Recreation objective. We also offer arts and music programmes for the Skills section and a variety of opportunities for the Volunteering section. Our wide selection of residential opportunities and venues can be used to meet the Gold Residential objective.

All our D of E programmes are driven by the following ten guiding principles:

  • Non-competitive
  • Achievable by All
  • Voluntary
  • Personal Development
  • Personalised

  • Balanced
  • Progressive
  • Achievement focused
  • Demand commitment
  • Enjoyable
