My Work Highs

Hi my name is Elaine and I have worked at C I Adventures since June 2013 as an administrator, I along with a colleague am responsible for the bookings, from individuals, parties and school groups. The best part of my job is when I come into work and know there is going to be activities going on in the Boiler House, the building just seems to come alive, especially when it is a group of school children, there is a buzz around the place and the screams and shouts of excitement when they are trying something for the first time is great to hear.

I love telling people about where I work and would encourage anyone, old and young to come down to see us and have …….

Norland School Pond

Hi my name is Catherine and I mainly work with secondary school students doing their DofE. One of my groups that are doing their DofE Award is volunteering at my local junior school in Norland. We go to the school and work in the school grounds in their wildlife area. So far we have cut back trees and helped to make the pond a safer area so that the children can go hunting for mini beasts in the Spring term.

The pond was 4ft deep and was potentially dangerous so our first task was to empty all of the water from the pond and half fill it with hard-core so that it was only 2ft deep. The girls got really into the work and enjoyed getting in the pond to empty the water, especially ……

Deaf Project

I think my most rewarding experience in the Boiler House would be working with a group of teens involved in the Deaf Project. All of them had problems with their speaking and hearing. Some of them could barely speak, so I had to use the very little knowledge of sign language I have and a lot of hand gestures just so I could coach them properly.

The only experience I’d had with deaf previous to that was the sign language experts on TV, so it’s safe to say that I was beginner at best. Although the session was roughly only around an hour long, I developed as a person and a coach really quickly. I gained an incredible amount of knowledge about their disability and how to work ……

Elaine’s Team Building Day

Earlier in the year, before I worked here, I was fortunate enough to be asked to go on a team building day at the Boiler House, I say fortunate because it has to be one of the most exciting experiences I have had. I came down with the rest of my team not really knowing what to expect, I had recently lost a fair amount of weight so this would be the first time I had ever been able to join in anything physical, so when asked what I wanted to try, I just said EVERYTHING, which is exactly what i did, starting with a team building game, then zip wire, high slack line, low slack line, ladder climb, caving, archery, circus skills, climbing wall and low ropes course. At some point we…….

61 Miles

I love challenges, especially when it involves fitness. When my Dad mentioned about a 61 mile bike ride from Manchester to Blackpool I couldn’t turn it down. I had to get a new bike for the occasion because my previous one had broken, plus I had to train really hard to ensure I would be able to survive the challenge without giving up. It was fairly tricky finding the time to be able to train because I also do karate regularly, so I needed to juggle those two as well as adding other engagements to the list.

I was confident that morning, although if I put together all the hours of practice I’d done over the months I had to prepare, it would only ……
